A Taste Of Amala: Olaoluwa kitchen

The Upside:
Olaoluwa Kitchen is located at 34A Hakeem Balogun Street, Ikeja. This spot is quite nice compared to other common Amala joints. The spacious two-story building has a welcoming atmosphere, with the first floor being a busy area and the second floor offering a peaceful space. Overall, the setting is comfortable and inviting.
The restaurant was bustling with customers, but still managed to maintain an organized ordering process. The true highlights, however, were the dishes: the Amala was very soft, and the Gbegiri and Ewedu were rich and flavorful. The protein was also properly cooked to tender.
The Amala portion is generous and affordably priced. They also offer a variety of dishes including Jollof Rice, Fried Rice, Porridge, Plantain, and Ofada Rice, providing plenty of options for those who don’t prefer swallow.
Downside:
One of the drawbacks is the servers’ haste in attending to customers. If you don’t place your order promptly, they quickly move on to the next customer. This can be frustrating, especially if you need a few extra minutes to decide on your order or have questions about the menu.
Another drawback is the limited parking space, which can be a challenge for customers. We also noticed that the second floor was lacking serviettes, despite our notification to the staff, they didn’t rectify the issue.
Lastly, toothpicks were only provided upon request. These small issues might seem minor, but they can easily spoil an otherwise great experience.
In summary, while Olaoluwa Kitchen’s Amala was good, it was not the best. The restaurant has its strengths which includes its spacious and clean atmosphere, diverse menu options, and efficient ordering process. However, it falls short in providing attentive service and attention to detail. With a few improvements, it could become a top choice for Amala lovers.
