Wakame Lagos
If you think Ikeja is all traffic and “Oga, enter now!” bus conductors, let Wakame change your mind in one visit. Tucked away on Joel Ogunnaike Street, Wakame is serving up bold Asian street food with so much style you might forget you’re in Lagos altogether (until NEPA does what NEPA does, but don’t worry, they’re prepared for that too).
Since opening in 2021, Wakame has been the go-to spot for anyone craving more than just dinner. Wakame isn’t here to play small. Their semi-open kitchen is basically a culinary theatre. It’s like watching MasterChef live, except you actually get to eat the results. Everything comes on small plates and boards made for sharing. So bring friends, or that date you want to impress with your sophisticated taste in dining.
But let’s be honest: Lagosians love a good turn-up, and Wakame knows this. Enter Wakame Lounge, where every Friday and Saturday night transforms into a vibe with DJ Nights from 9 PM to 1 AM. Cocktails flowing, music thumping, dance moves (some better than others) happening all over. It’s a proper party but with better lighting and much better food.
And if you’re more of a Sunday brunch person (or just need to recover from said DJ night), Wakame has you covered with their Spice Market Sunday Buffet from 12 PM to 4 PM. Imagine endless plates of Asian goodness, dumplings, noodles, sizzling grills, all just waiting to be devoured while you sit back and feel fancy.
Let’s not forget the bar, these guys take their drinks seriously. From refreshingly creative cocktails to an extensive wine and spirits menu, your glass will always be in good company.
Wakame is open Tuesday and Wednesday till 10:30 PM, and Thursday to Sunday they keep the party going until 1 AM. Mondays? They rest. Even ninjas need a break.
So whether you’re planning a date night with a twist, a catch-up with your foodie friends, or just want to sip cocktails while pretending you’re somewhere in Bangkok, Wakame is your spot in Ikeja.
