Let’s start with the ambience.
Yello Chilli is located in a standalone house which makes for cozy but sometimes cramped dining rooms. The decor is humble, mainly just simple tables and local art. Lighting could be better at night.
The food
The menu features a wide selection of Nigerian soups, stews, rice dishes, meat and seafood plates showcasing all the rich spices and textures of the region’s cuisine.
Standouts include several varieties of pepper soup with goat or fresh fish, hearty okro stew with mixed seafood, jollof rice topped with shrimp and chicken pieces.
Signature items also blend classics like suya in creative platters. The balance of locally-inspired flavors from tender oxtail to spicy moin moin attracts both casual and more serious diners. Affordable prices starting from 3,000 naira make trying true Nigerian fare approachable.
The staff’
The staff are relaxed, to match the casual vibe, the service can be quite slow, which is fine if you have time. But when they get busy, waits for food or even just a beer can get long.
Downside Review
In terms of facilities, parking can get tricky around the small lot. Yello Chilli Restaurant only has a small parking area next to the building, accommodating perhaps 10-15 cars tightly packed. With much of its business coming from takeaway orders for local residents, parking spots fill up early during peak dinner hours but security seems fine in the area.
Regarding ambience, beyond lighting issues, the rooms are often noisy when packed, the cozy dining rooms can feel rather cramped and noisy when filled to capacity during peak times. The close proximity of tables means when all the spaces are full, conversations from neighboring parties make it difficult to have discussions without leaning in or raising voices.
