A Food Affair with Sycamorebyonebasket
We’ve penned so many a review, slept with letters A to Z, wooed verbs and adjectives, married nouns and pronouns. So you can call us a pro-now. Follow us we write our affair with Sycamorebyonebasket.
Nestled in the bustling center of Ikosi Ketu is a restaurant that packs flavor – Sycamore By One Basket, located at 30a Bashiru Shittu Ave, Ikosi Ketu, Lagos.

Stepping inside Sycamore By One Basket, one is an intimate ambience. The dining area is made up of just a handful of tables. The walls are decorated with local Nigerian masks and artwork that catch the eye. Servers are warm and welcoming, making you feel as though you’re stepping into their own home rather than an establishment(lol).

The food is where Sycamore By One Basket takes it. They offer up fresh, authentic Nigerianfood made from family recipes passed down through generations. From rich stews to perfected rice dishes to succulent meats.

Standouts on the menu include their barbecued chicken, smoky jollof rice studded with beef and greens, egusi soup overloaded with fish and shrimp, and ever-popular pounded yam with a stellar combination of egg and vegetable soups for dipping.
Budget should be between N15,000-N20,000
Downside Review
Firstly, the location itself can be tricky to find for those unfamiliar with Ikosi Ketu. Tucked away on a side street behind a grocery market, Sycamore has no signage out front and blends right in to its surrounds. Without clear directions or a map pinpointing the exact address, expect to do some navigating and asking around before you eventually stumble upon this hidden spot.

The setting itself has potential for upgrade. While the cozy tables and ethnic decor gives off old-world charm, the furnishings have grown quite dated and worn over time, in need of refurbishment. Lighting could be improved to brighter levels for reading menus. Some structural upgrades would also help expand capacity to the consistently crowded.
Finnaly, the kitchen and service struggles a bit with consistency at busier times. During slower hours, expect attentive, friendly wait staff and punctual courses. However, when the small dining room fills up especially on weekends and nights, service slows down noticeably. Servers seem overwhelmed trying to juggle multiple tables. Food takes much longer to come out from the back kitchen which appears understaffed to handle larger crowds.
Overall, we give Sycamorebyonebasket a 6.5/10. The 3.5 for the extra money Uber we paid for Uber.
