Izanagi Lagos Review

Tucked upstairs in The Blowfish Hotel on Idejo Street, Izanagi restaurant feels like something you would find in London, not Lagos. The décor is calm and the space is classy.

There’s a cozy terrace, and from the moment you sit down, you know this is not a “quick bite” kind of place. This is where you come when you want proper Japanese food, made by people who clearly know what they’re doing.

If you love sushi, ramen, teriyaki, or anything Japanese, you will be very comfortable here.

First Impressions: Fine Dining Energy

Izanagi is on the first floor of the same building as Velvett Grill (formerly Piccolo Mondo). Once you walk upstairs, the atmosphere changes.

It is quiet and stylish, with soft lighting and minimal design. Honestly, It feels intentional.

You can tell this place was designed for people who enjoy dining, not just eating.

The Food: Where Izanagi Really Shines

Let’s be honest. The main reason you are here is the food. Well, i’m happy to tell you that  Izanagi does not disappoint.

Their menu is wide, very wide. From sushi rolls to ramen, tempura, teriyaki, robatayaki grill, noodles, salads, and desserts. You can come here five times and still not finish exploring the menu.

Here are some standouts you should not skip:

  • Spicy Salmon Sushi Rolls (special mention, truly excellent)
  • California Maki
  • Black Angus Beef Teriyaki
  • Chicken Ramen
  • Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna
  • Calamari Tempura
  • Agedashi Tofu
  • Beef Yaki Udon

The sushi tastes fresh and the flavors are balanced. Nothing feels rushed, you can taste the effort from the chef.

This is the kind of place where you chew slowly because you don’t want the food to finish.

Drinks Menu? Extensive Is an Understatement

Whether you want sake, cocktails, mocktails, champagne, wine, whiskey, or smoothies, Izanagi has it. Their sake and sake cocktails are worth trying if you want the full Japanese dining experience.

The Terrace: A Hidden Gem

One of the best parts of Izanagi is the cozy terrace.

If you like quiet dining with fresh air and a relaxed mood, ask to sit there. It’s perfect for dates, calm conversations, and “let’s just enjoy this moment” dinners.

Who Should Come to Izanagi?

Izanagi is perfect for:

  • Date nights
  • Birthdays
  • Quiet dinners
  • Sushi lovers
  • People who enjoy fine dining
  • Anyone tired of the usual Lagos restaurant noise

This is not a loud restaurant. It is a calm, classy one.

Final Verdict

Izanagi is easily one of the best Japanese restaurants in Lagos. It doesn’t try too hard. It simply gets the food, the space, and the experience right.

If you want sushi that tastes like it was made by a proper sushi chef, in a space that feels like London fine dining, Izanagi is where you should be.
