Needleman and honestly, my stomach dropped when I opened it. It says they represent a creditor and that I need to contact them regarding a debt. The letter has their address as 500 N. Broadway, Suite 1660, Jericho, NY 11753 and the phone number (516) 745-1500.
I'm not even sure what debt this is supposed to be about. The letter is pretty vague and just says "account" with a reference number. I've had some financial struggles in the past, but I've been trying to get back on track. Now I'm worried they're going to sue me.
I've been googling them and it seems like they do debt collection and lawsuits. Some things I've read say you should never just call them back without knowing your rights because anything you say can be used against you. Other people say you should demand debt validation in writing within 30 days.
A few questions for anyone who's been through this:

Can they really garnish wages or freeze bank accounts?

I'm in Massachusetts and I think the debt might be from a few years ago. I'm honestly scared and don't know what to do first. I don't have money for a lawyer but I also don't want to end up with a judgment against me.
