Not sure how to tell which ISO certification bodies are actually credible?

Quote

Our company is preparing for ISO 9001 certification for the first time, and I’ve reached the point where we need to choose a certification body. I assumed this part would be straightforward, but after talking to a few providers and searching online, I’m honestly more confused than when I started.

The pricing is all over the place, and every company claims they’re internationally recognized, fully accredited, and better than the others. Some are pushing hard to close quickly, while others barely explain what the audit process even looks like. One provider quoted us less than half the price of another, which makes me wonder whether there’s a real difference in quality or if the industry is just inconsistent.

What’s making this harder is that a few of our customers are in regulated industries, so I don’t want to end up with a certificate that clients later see as low credibility. At the same time, we’re still a small business and can’t afford to overspend just because a company has a bigger name.

For those who’ve already gone through ISO certification, how did you evaluate certification bodies before making a decision? Were there specific things you looked for beyond accreditation status? I’d also like to know if anyone had problems later because they picked the wrong registrar the first time around.

Most articles I’ve found feel written by certification companies themselves, so I’m hoping to hear some real experiences from people who’ve actually been through the process.
