I've been driving my 2015 GMC Yukon Denali since it was nearly new and it's been an absolute workhorse for hauling the family around Sharjah and the occasional trip to Al Ain but the other day on the way back from Sahara Centre the transmission just started slipping badly when trying to upshift on the highway and now I'm getting that dreaded shudder and a slight burning smell if I push it too hard and I'm honestly terrified of what the dealer is going to tell me because I've heard these 6L80 gearboxes can be a real weak point once the mileage creeps up. My regular mechanic in Abu Shagara said he could swap in a used transmission from the scrapyard but I'm not super keen on rolling the dice with an unknown unit that might have the same issue six months down the line and I'd rather find someone who actually knows how to open these things up and fix the root cause whether it's the torque converter failing or the pump wearing out. I've been searching around and came across a few places that advertise GMC Gearbox Repair Sharjah and they seem to specialize in rebuilding the 6L80 with upgraded parts and a proper tune afterwards, but I'm always a bit skeptical of workshops I find on Google without a real person vouching for them. Has anyone in the Sharjah or Dubai area actually had their GMC transmission rebuilt rather than just replaced and can tell me if it's worth the extra effort and whether the fix actually lasts in our heat with all the stop and go traffic on King Faisal Street?
